For Immediate Release · Los Angeles, CA — June 15th, 2026
A new global coalition of content creators, The Alliance for Responsible Innovation in the Arts & Media (ARIAM), is launching today with the mission to ensure that AI is developed and deployed responsibly, sustainably and for the betterment of all society.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, ARIAM’s members include companies across the content and tech industries, including Adobe, Advance, BBC, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, Condé Nast, The Financial Times, ITV, The New York Times, Reach, The Walt Disney Company and Wiley. ARIAM will operate worldwide and be led by Victoria Furniss, former Netflix executive and CEO and Co-Founder of The Birdella Group.
As AI rapidly reshapes how content is created, distributed, and monetized, ARIAM will work across the content and tech sectors to advocate for responsibility-by-design legal and policy frameworks that are underpinned by fairness and accountability principles. This will ensure that AI achieves its potential on a long-lasting foundation that also protects consumers (particularly children), creators, and, more broadly, our culture, society, and democratic institutions.
“ARIAM’s goal is not to slow AI down but to ensure it is able to sustain the broader ecosystems long term,” said Victoria Furniss. “ARIAM is a first-of-its-kind cross content sector coalition seeking to ensure that AI supports human creativity, respects the rule of law, and safeguards consumers. AI developers have a genuine opportunity to ensure that creativity and innovation both flourish.”
Child safety expert John Carr, OBE, added: “For years, parents, teachers and children have relied on well-known characters, media, and educational materials as safe, dependable guides or sources of entertainment. The irresponsible development and use of AI have allowed these to be hijacked and distorted, turning them into agents of harm. Responsible-by-design development and use of AI tools must be at the heart of the way forward. Parents, teachers and children need to be able to trust again.”
ARIAM is advocating for a shift in how AI is developed to a place where accountability, transparency, and safety are embedded from day one. At the center of that approach is the clear idea that responsible innovation is good for society. Without meaningful accountability, misuse, misinformation, and IP theft will harm creators and consumers.
ARIAM is working with Damian Collins, OBE, who said: “Using AI to break the law can never be an acceptable excuse. Laws around personal safety, intellectual property and financial crime still apply in the age of AI. This is why ARIAM has been created and why I’m proud to working with this necessary initiative”. He went on to say: “Developers must build with safety in mind, take responsibility for their designs and ultimately work closely with the entire ecosystem to ensure good outcomes. The lesson from the recent experience of enacting and enforcing regulation in digital markets is that without clear frameworks being established we will never develop an effective marketplace for AI products and services.”
“Responsible AI and respect for copyright must go hand in hand. Wiley is proud to support initiatives that promote transparency, accountability, and practical solutions to prevent and mitigate AI-related infringement while enabling innovation that benefits researchers, educators, creators, and society.”
Deidre Silver, General Counsel, Wiley“AI can serve as a tool to support human creativity, and the immense value it brings to society, but it would be wrong to throw away hard-fought-for legal protections. By bringing together global stakeholders from film, television, journalism and publishing, ARIAM will put content creators in a stronger position to ensure their rights are properly protected.”
Catie Sheret, General Counsel, Cambridge University Press & Assessment“Quality information has become the upstream infrastructure for LLM development. As a provider of gold-standard journalism, we welcome ARIAM’s contribution to advancing transparency and accountability in how AI models operate and generate outputs. Transparency is key to a healthy information ecosystem.”
Finola McDonnell, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, Financial Times“Without the up-to-date information, analysis, archive material and breaking news that comes from content creators across the media and creative sectors, AI models quickly lose their value. It’s in everyone’s best interests that content creators get a fair return on their investment and this is an important step towards that.”
Piers North, Chief Executive, Reach plc“Adobe’s mission is empowering everyone to create. We believe creativity is a uniquely human trait, and that AI should amplify human imagination, not replace it. As these technologies evolve, it’s essential that innovation and creator protection advance together. We’re committed to advocating for creator-first policies and to working with the creative community, policymakers and the industry to ensure the creative economy can thrive in the age of AI.”
